"What would you change" challenge

Picture
Want to start a movement to improve your community?
Are you an educator or an active citizen?
Here is an idea to involve student (or other) groups, build collective power and bring about change in the society.

You will be using the social ecological model and a bottom-up approach. Start at the Individual level and use the positive results from those changes to create momentum and convince others at the Interpersonal, Organizational, Community, and Public policy level to join the movement.

Follow the 5 steps below

Step 1: Monitor

Ask students to spend a week recording what annoys them - look for behaviors and situations that they would like to change, which would help the community. E.g., inequality and injustice, more green space, inconsiderate drivers, impolite smokers, plastic and litterers. bullying, etc.

Use a collaborative tool (e.g., a google form or google doc) to allow participants enter their ideas online.
Note: This site will provide a toolkit (such as this) with step by step information, guides, forms, and examples for the implementation the project.

Step 2: List

Categorise the behaviors listed in Step 1. Appoint a committee to do that or run a workshop to involve participants, who will select one thing they are passionate about.

Step 3: Challenge

Invite students to submit 5-20" videos (funny if possible), cartoons, infographics, write a short story about someone who did the right thing or improvise ideas for actions that if publicised will prompt others to change their behaviour.
(Expect the whole family to engage, thus multiplying the effect.)

Step 4: Incentivise

Find sponsors to offer prizes, appoint a committee to select the best initiatives and award the prizes.
Criteria will include
urgency and importance (e.g., effecting a large number of people  in a wordly relevant way), proposal of a rational way to solve or mitigate the issue etc.

Step 5: Share

Use TV, the press and social media to publicise the event and make an impact. (Students will share their work on Social media anyway, thus multiplying the effect.)
